The Yankees are back!

It is amazing to think that the last Yankee World Series win was 2000. At that time, they probably thought they would stay on top forever. It took a little bloop single by Luis Gonzalez, who had hit a total of 60 regular and post season homers, to KO top closer Mariano Rivera and the Bronx Bombers. Who would have thought that the deep-pocketed Yanks, winners of the 3 previous October Classics, would not win another until 2009. An interesting sidenote on the turn of events in 2001...Rivera's close friend and teammate Enrique Wilson moved up his flight to the Dominican Republic with no Series win and parade and subsequently was not on the ill-fated flight 587 that crashed in Queens, NY killing all aboard.
